Punjabi Home Visit and Cooking

Duration: 3-4 hrs including transfer

Introduction: Amritsar’s dhabas and street food may be legendary, but nothing can beat the taste of home food, lovingly cooked and served. Chhole, rajma-chawal, makki di roti, baingan bharta and tarri-wala chicken are some of the wholesome and hearty dishes which gladden the hearts (and stomachs!) of all Punjabis.

Tour Coverage: In this tour, we visit a local home in Amritsar for an interactive cooking session and meal. The cooking session will be led by the lady of the house, assisted by her son.

Typically the menu includes a starter, main course and a sweet-dish. There is no standard menu as it varies based on the season and what’s available in the market. If there’s something specific that you want to try, please let us know in advance and we’ll try to arrange it. It is suitable for vegetarians and non-vegetarians, but please let us know your preference in advance.

While this is not a cooking class conducted by professionals, you’ll find yourself learning a lot about Punjabi home cooking because of the interactive and friendly nature of the session. This tour also provides a chance to visit a local home, see what family life is like, and chat about daily life in the city.

Cooking takes between 60 - 90 minutes, after which you will eat together. After the tour, we will drop you back at your hotel. If you do not wish to participate in the cooking and prefer to only watch and photograph (or just talk and eat!), that is fine as well.

Do remember to ask your hostess about her famous pickles! Pickling is a prized skill and her expertise is well-known among her family and friends.
